In an effort to bolster the flagging Microsoft Live service offering and to compete with existing Image services from Google and Yahoo, Microsoft will is BETA testing photo sharing and free web based folder file sharing.

Beta testers are being given 500 megabytes of online storage. Though they can share files with anyone they wish, people who are invited to use a shared folder have to sign up for a Windows Live ID for authentication, said Brian Hall, general manager of the Windows Live business group.

"This is the second generation" of Windows Live, said Hall.

If they could just improve Live search they might be on the right track, as it is if they did not have the install base of windows users pointing traffic to Live search, they would be nowhere.

It has been reported today 6/20/07 that Newscorp the owner of Myspace is contemplating selling Myspace to yahoo for 25% of Yahoos shares. No news as yet whether Yahoo would be open to this.

It does underscore the need for Yahoo to do something to gain momentum and market share in its social networking, and search marketing offerings.

The ball is in Yahoos court, as it has been for some years now.

In a move that must come as a relief for Yahoo shareholders, Terry Semel resigns as Yahoos CEO. This followed  a lackluster couple of years where Yahoos share price had stagnated and Google shares rocketed

Semel was reportedly one of the highest paid executives in the US with stock options running into the many many tens of millions per anum.

Lets be honest Semel typified the lazy scumbag exec who robs the shareholders having the balls to pay himself hundreds of millions while the stock stagnates
