How long does it take to get accepted into the Dmoz Directory? June 13, 2007

The official answer is depending on the activity of the category you submit to, it may take up to 2 weeks or more for your site to be reviewed.

So officially its at least 2 weeks or more, meaning months, in fact the reality is you can expect to wait many months depending on how busy the site editors are in your category.

Dmoz is moderated by people, site editors, actual people, the problem is that some categories not only require the OK from one editor but any editor higher up the category chain can refuse a submission, this is also what slows down the process.

There have been some horror stories of submissions waiting 6 months plus to be accepted or being rejected outright because the category editor was a competitor website or a friend of a competitor website, (of course these are just rumors).

In the end the only thing you can say for sure is humans are fallible and while Im sure these stories or generally not true, they can happen.

So don’t expect to be added into dmoz, view it as a bonus, and be patient, the editors are volunteers and they work hard.

Search engine submit locations

So you have reached the stage where you are happy with your with your website and you want to submit it to all or as many search engines as you can.

This is not as easy as it sounds, for example: I tried for ages to find the submit service for the Microsoft Live search, I eventually found out it does not have a submit service, stupid, but it should have been a lot easier to clarify that point,UPGATE I found the Microsoft live submit see below,  Google is no problem, as is Yahoo, but the rest can be a pain.

Note: Beware of the automatic submit services \ scripts, many of them have out of date submit links, also beware of submit to 10000 xyz service, they will spam your address to the dregs of the website link listing sites, a waste of time and will (in my opinion) actually hurt your ranking.

Your best bet is to manually submit to each of the search engines yourself, especially Google or Yahoo, their submit tools are excellent, or dmoz directory
